Knapp 90% der Bevölkerung sind Paraguayer, von denen Mestizen die Mehrheit bilden und aus Verbindungen spanischer Einwanderer mit der indigenen Bevölkerung hervorgegangen sind. Desweiteren gibt es neben regional bedeutenden Minderheiten von Europäern verschiedene Gruppen indigener Herkunft, unter denen die Guaraní die bedeutendste Gruppe darstellen. Ihre Sprache, ebenfalls Guaraní genannt gilt seit 1992 als offizielle Landessprache und wird von über 80% der nicht indigenen Bevölkerung als Erst- oder Zweitsprache gesprochen. Hingegen wird das Spanische, die zweite offizielle Sprache, von nur etwa 55% der paraguayischen Bevölkerung gesprochen.
Die vorliegende Hausarbeit zum Thema “Sprachpolitik in Paraguay“ konzentriert sich im Wesentlichen auf die Annahme eines Bilingualismus in Paraguay. In Kapitel 2 wird ein historischer Überblick über den Sprachkontakt zwischen dem Spanischen und Guaraní gegeben, welcher sich über einen Zeitrahmen von der Kolonialisierung bis zur Gegenwart erstreckt. Zum besseren Verständnis der Koexistenz beider Sprachen werden die wichtigsten politischen Entscheidungen und historischen Ereignisse dargelegt. Anschließend wird in Kapitel 3 die aktuelle Sprachpolitik Paraguays dargestellt und deren Umsetzung im abschließenden Kapitel 4 untersucht.
Verschiedene historische Ereignisse trugen zu einem stetigen Sprachkontakt zwischen der autochthonen Sprache Guaraní und der allochthonen Sprache Spanisch bei. Im Folgenden werden...
