An inspiring & motivating cover to cover read

Some books just happen to click well with your thoughts and mind, and no doubt that this one will clock with numerous young and ambitious professionals who want to something different in their career. Clearly focussed on some of the well accomplished and very carefuly selected entreprenuers and business leaders, the authors and the Fortune research team has done a terrific job in creating a book which is very engaging and interesting. Trust me, it never gets boring...ever!

You will get to learn extensively from the success stories of 27 absolutely great people in a concise 250 pager. There are 9 main chapters roughly of 20-25 pages each with 3 success stories. This gives you an idea that it continues to stay interesting read with well-researched first hand narratives and a couple of side-note style summaries. Then the last chapter "In Their Own Words" is in questionnaire style format with some very good work-life tips staright from the 40 under 40 folks.

You'd have definitely heard the names like Under Armor, Elon Musk, Zappos, Jawbone, etc. and any curiosity to know more about them can be easily satisfied by this book.

Great book for those who like to read business and business-history

"Zoom" isn't really a book about how YOU can supercharge YOUR career, though it might help. It's more of a history of how now-famous people in various different industries and businesses became successful. The chapter titles in the table of contents (which you can view on the amazon website) distill what's in the book:

Challenge Goliath
Get in Over Your Head
Start a Cult
Follow Your First Love
Find a Problem
Do One Thing Well
Stand by Your Company
Think of Others
Bounce Back

While I enjoyed the book and the stories about Elon Musk and the Under Armour, Zappos and Momofuku founders (among others), I've been reading about those in FORTUNE and other magazines (to some degree) for the past several years, so there wasn't too much new info from my own perspective. What I really liked was the 25 pages at the back called "In Their Own Words: Tips and Advice from Zoomers," which is worth the price of the book itself.

If you enjoy reading "FORTUNE" magazine or business/career books, you will more than likely enjoy "Zoom."

Serviceable Inspiration for Business Effectiveness

Fortune's 40 Under 40 feature spotlights business people of great financial success. This book is built on that series, distilling lessons from individuals and businesses in a number of fields.

It's well-written. It's also well-organized for rapid reference by individuals highlighted, or by subject matter (such as "Do One Thing Well" or "Follow Your First Love." Its interior is also well-designed, with key points highlighted in text boxes underscoring specific tips on "How to Zoom."

How should the reader approach this book? My sense is that many will dip into it for inspiration during a challenging moment. That would make a lot of sense. It's full of inspirational anecdotes, one or more of which just might change your outlook or give you confidence in where you stand or keep you in the game just at that moment when you might have thrown in the towel.

Any of those things would be well worth the price of a book.

I was fortunate to receive a review copy of this eBook from Packt Publishing, and I say fortunate because, wow, it's quite an outstanding piece of work. Let's start with the fact that it's 390 pages and that does not include the cover or the extensive table of contents.

It's called a cookbook for a reason. Like a recipe in a cookbook, each section takes you carefully through the steps you need to follow to complete a task, whether it's installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, installing the CRM 2011 Server, customizing entities, and so much more. Even configuring Yammer! And if you didn't already know what Yammer is, you'll find out when you read this volume which is available in both eBook and print editions @ http://link.packtpub.com/gcIQ4d and of course right here on Amazon.

Dynamics CRM 2011 is a huge platform and is impossible to cover all the aspects only with one book. The author knows the platform and provides a good overview for several topics (installation, customization, data management, ...)

Very good book about Dynamics CRM 2011

This book is extremely useful to anyone who works with Dynamics CRM 2011 as either a user or as a consultant. The book takes us through a broad and comprehensive view of the platform and including also many aids that are not found anywhere else.

Describes all of the installation details from simple platforms to more complex including multiple servers, aptly describes many key aspects in mantencion for optimum performance permanently as also on the use of debugging tools to find problems.

It describes all areas configuration including the sitemap configuration and ribbon configuration, also talks about integration with others platforms as SharePoint, Yamer, Skype. Finally a full chapter about workflows and dialogs.

I have worked with Dynamics CRM 2011 for several years and have read a lot about it, this book has been a great contribution to my knowledge to address in a better way situations I have encountered many times.

Eine autonome Interpretation der EMRK führt jedoch dazu, den Begriff der „civil rights“ weiter zu verstehen und zahlreiche Streitigkeiten als davon erfasst anzusehen, die nach deutscher Dogmatik öffentlich-rechtliche Streitigkeiten sind.
Danach wird die Organisationsgarantie des Art. 6 EMRK näher beleuchtet und geklärt, welche Anforderungen ein „Gremium“ erfüllen muss, um als „auf Gesetz beruhendes Gericht“ nach Art. 6 EMRK anerkannt zu sein.
Daran anschließend wird in einem weiteren Abschnitt der Arbeit die Verfahrensgarantie, der eigentliche Kern der Vorschrift, der fair-trial-Grundsatz analysiert. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt wird dabei auf die beiden Konkretisierungen gelegt, bei denen die Regelungen des deutschen Verwaltungsprozessrechts am ehesten hinter dem Standard des Art. 6 EMRK zurück bleiben.
Dies ist zum einen das Gebot angemessener Verfahrensdauer. Der Verfasser zeigt auf, nach welchen Kriterien die „angemessene Dauer“ zu bestimmen ist. Er weist auf die besondere Bedeutung des Zusammenspiels von Art. 6 Abs. 1 EMRK und Art. 13 EMRK in diesem Bereich hin. Anschließend arbeitet er heraus, dass die Verfahrensdauer eine der größten Schwächen des deutschen Verwaltungsprozesses ist und stellt die Urteile des EGMR dar, in denen dieser eine Verletzung von Art. 6 EMRK durch eine unangemessen lange Verfahrensdauer rügt.
Zur Lösung dieses Problems ist nach Ansicht des Autors der Gesetzgeber aufgefordert, ein Verfahren auszugestalten, das einen effektiven Rechtsschutz gegen Verletzungen des Rechts auf angemessene Verfahrensdauer gewährleistet. Daneben wird als weitere Lösungsmöglichkeit auch eine nachträgliche Kompensation auf dem Wege der Staatshaftung bedacht.
Den zweiten Schwerpunkt bildet der Grundsatz der Öffentlichkeit nach Art. 6 EMRK. Die VwGO kennt zahlreiche Ausnahmen von diesem Grundsatz, die untersucht und zu denen konkrete Vorschläge zu einer konventionskonformen Anwendung gemacht werden.

Fragen der strategischen und taktischen Bedeutung einer funktionierenden Verpflegungswirtschaft der Heere werden ebenso wenig ausgelassen wie die Bedeutung dieses Komplexes für die allgemeine Staatswirtschaft antiker Staaten. Besonders kritisch werden die üblicherweise tradierten Angaben über Heeresstärken und logistische Leistungen in der Antike beleuchtet.

Es geht im Kern um die Frage, wie die Soldaten in Krieg und Frieden an zweckmäßige und ausreichende Verpflegung kommen, in diesem Falle also in einer Zeit, die grosso modo fast zweieinhalb Jahrtausende vor der unsrigen liegt. Cato meinte zwar rund 200 Jahre später: „Bellum se ipsum alet.“ Dies kann natürlich wirklich nur für Kriegszeiten gelten, nicht aber wenn die Truppe in der Garnison liegt. Und überhaupt war der von Cato gemeinte Topos für größere Feldzüge ein sehr unsicherer Begleiter, auf den sich schon antike Heerführer nicht verlassen wollten. Im Gegenteil, ihnen war die eminente Bedeutung der Verpflegung der Truppe sehr wohl bewusst und ständig präsent, wobei den antiken Ernährungsgewohnheiten entsprechend meist Verpflegung mit Getreide gleichgesetzt wurde.
