Best book ever!

This is the best book ever because it told about how good of a astronaut she was and what NASA did in training. It also gives you small facts about other things and other people too. My uncle also went to the same school Sally Ride did. Ps. I love space a lot and I think what she did was awesome.

This series never seems to let me down! My students love to read these books, and I love that they are reading nonfiction and learning about great people in history. The book provides a nice mixture of pictures to go with the information that is presented about Sally Ride.

Inappropriate Subject Matter

My 8-year-old daughter loved this book and loves this series. However, we will no longer purchase this series as the end of this particular book explains that Ms Ride was gay and left her husband for a woman. That Ms Ride was gay doesn't make a difference to the fact that she was still a great American. However, my daughter came to me confused as to who this "Tam" was and why would Sally leave her husband for her. At 8-years-old, my daughter doesn't even understand a crush on a boy let alone a homosexual relationship. Such a subject should not be discussed in a "young readers" book. For that matter, she doesn't even understand divorce and why people would break their vows to each other -- so why is that discussed in these books? I get that these subjects are part of life, but can't we stick to the specific facts about how these historic people became who they were -- such as education and hard work? Save the more adult content for adults, or at least teenagers.

Während seines Aufenthalts im Dorf kommt er mit den diversen Verborgenheiten und Rätseln in Berührung, die sich um das Schloß und seine Bewohner ranken. Die Bandbreite reicht hierbei von undurchsichtigen Behördenvorgängen über Beamtenwillkür bis hin zu absoluter Verschwiegenheit und Einschüchterung der Dorfbewohner. Eines der vielen Mysterien bleibt zweifelsohne die Figur des Beamten Klamm, welche ich im Folgenden, im Hinblick auf seine Beziehung zu K., näher betrachten werde. Hierzu werde ich mich auf die Szenen konzentrieren, die sich direkt auf beide Personen beziehen sowie auf weitere Figuren, die sowohl zu K. als auch zu Klamm eine bestimmte Bindung aufweisen und somit als Verbindungspersonen fungieren. Während der ganzen Handlung erhält K. zwei Briefe von Klamm, dem Vorsteher der X. Kanzlei. K. hofft dadurch, die erwünschte Annäherung an Klamm bewerkstelligen und mehr Licht in das Dunkel um Schloß und Klamm bringen zu können. Ein erster direkter Kontakt zwischen K. und Klamm wird bereits kurz nach K.’s Ankunft im Dorf hergestellt. „Der Vorstand der X. Kanzlei“ , Klamm, bestätigt in dem vom Boten Barnabas überbrachten Brief K.’s Aufnahme in die Dienste des Schlosses und weist ihm als direkten Vorgesetzten und Ansprechpartner den Gemeindevorsteher zu. K. geht davon aus, eine Anstellung als Landvermesser erhalten zu haben und versteht den Brief demnach fälschlicherweise „als ein amtliches Dokument“ . Über eine Beschäftigung K.’s als Landvermesser verliert Klamm hingegen kein Wort. Der erste Brief Klamms ist vielmehr als eine Benachrichtigung zu verstehen, dass K. zwar die Erlaubnis zum Verbleib im Dorf erhalten hat, jedoch sich nicht in Sicherheit wiegen sollte, da auch Klamm ihn nicht aus den Augen verlieren wird. Als K. den Brief dem Gemeindevorsteher und seiner Frau zeigt,
machen auch sie ihm klar, dass es sich um „keine amtliche Zuschrift“, sondern um einen „Privatbrief“ handelt. Weitaus mehr Aufsehen als jener erste Brief Klamms an K. erregt der, den K. erhält, nachdem er dem Verhör durch Momus entgehen konnte.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Theologie - Biblische Theologie, Note: 1,0, Universität Osnabrück (Evangelische Theologie), 32 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Folgenden mache ich mir zur Aufgabe, die so bekannten Perikopen vom Verlorenen (Lk 15, Vom verlorenen Schaf, Von der Verlorenen Drachme, Vom verlorenen Sohn und Lk 19,1-10, Zachäus) historisch-kritisch zu untersuchen, also einmal anders zu beleuchten, als sie aus Grundschule und Kindergottesdienst bekannt sind.
In dieser Arbeit möchte ich die Zweiquellentheorie, die letztendlich auch nur Hypothese ist, zu Grunde legen. Sie besagt, dass das Markusevangelium sowohl Matthäus als auch Lukas als Quelle vorgelegen hat. Damit ist Markus das älteste Evangelium. Lukas und Matthäus haben zudem unabhängig voneinander die so genannte Logienquelle Q verwendet, die Markus unbekannt war. Außerdem haben Lukas und Matthäus so genanntes Sondergut benutzt, Überlieferungsstoff, der nur jeweils einem von ihnen vorgelegen hat.
Ich werde so vorgehen, dass ich die wesentlichen Methodenschritte der neutestamentlichen historisch-kritischen Exegese, Textkritik, Literarkritik, Formkritik und Redaktionskritik zuerst für Lukas 15, im Anschluss bezogen auf Lk 19,1-10 nacheinander abhandeln werde. Überschneidungen werden sich dabei allerdings nicht vermeiden lassen. Abschließend soll eine zusammen schauende Schlussbetrachtung vorgenommen werden. Am Anfang einer Exegese gilt es, die ursprüngliche Textgestalt oder die älteste erreichbare Textgestalt wiederherzustellen und eine Übersetzung des griechischen Textes vorzunehmen .
Dies soll hier vorerst anhand des 15. Kapitels des Lukasevangeliums geschehen.
Weil die Perikopen Vom verlorenen Schaf (VV 15, 4-7), Von der verlorenen Drachme (VV 15,9-10) und Vom verlorenen Sohn (VV 15, 11-32) mir aufgrund der Einleitung (VV 15,1-3), die die Situation beschreibt, in der alle drei Gleichnisse „gesprochen“ werden, als zusammenhängend erscheinen , werde ich sie hier nicht aufspalten, sondern zusammen mit ihrer Einleitung als Ganzes darstellen.
Bei meiner Überprüfung dieses Kapitels mit Hilfe des Textkritischen Apparates der 27. Auflage des Nestle-Aland schien mir aufgrund der Kriterien der Äußeren Textkritik, die, um die ursprüngliche Form eines Textes wiederzugewinnen, nach Alter, Qualität und Quantität der eine Textgestalt überliefernden Handschriften fragt, zunächst der im Nestle-Aland abgedruckte Text übernommen werden zu können, weil dieser den Text der besten und ältesten Zeugen darstellt.

Einige der Argumente dieser Kritiker, vor allem, was den Einfluss von Hormonen auf geschlechtsspezifische Verhaltensweisen angeht, sollen hier kurz aufgeführt und abgewogen werden.
Zum Abschluss soll dann eine Quintessens aus den vorgebrachten Argumentationslinien gezogen werden, ein abschließendes Urteil allerdings muss ausbleiben.
Das auch aufgrund des begrenzten Umfangs einer Hausarbeit, die eine detaillierte und erschöpfende Diskussion der vorgetragenen Für- und Widerargumente leider nicht möglich macht..
Um die Übersicht zu erhöhen, schließt jedes Unterkapitel mit einer kleinen Zusammenfassung in einem extra Kasten in kursiver Schrift. Hierdurch erhoffe ich mir, dass der Zusammenhang der dargestellten Punkte für die Leser/innen greifbarer und verständlicher wird. Auch soll hierdurch die Möglichkeit gegeben werden, sich kurz über die wichtigsten Aspekte der einzelnen Unterpunkte einen Überblick verschaffen zu können. Im späten 19. Jahrhundert tauchte erstmals der Begriff Feminismus auf und bezeichnete das Engagement von Frauen, sich gegen Ungleichheiten und Unterdrückung durch die Männer zur Wehr zu setzen. Vornehmliches Ziel war es hier, eine geschlechterunabhängige Gleichheit zu schaffen, bei der jedes Individuum, ob nun männlich oder weiblich, die gleichen gesellschaftlichen Chancen und Rechte hat.
Damit einher ging die Kritik patriarchaler Strukturen, in denen die Männer die Vorherrschaft in den politischen, gesellschaftlichen und familiären Segmenten einnehmen.
Mit zunehmender Emanzipation und dem Durchsetzen von Rechten, wie etwa der Beteiligung von Frauen an den politischen Wahlen etc. wandelten sich auch die Zielsetzungen und Fragestellungen des Feminismus und ab den 60er Jahren stellte man auch erstmals Fragen nach dem Recht auf Abtreibung oder sexueller Ausbeutung zur Diskussion. Im Zuge der Tatsache, dass auch immer mehr Akademikerinnen sich in der feministischen Bewegung engagierten, gerieten zunehmend auch Themen wie die Frauenforschung und feministische Politik in den Fokus der Wissenschaft.

About the Author
Peter Chasseaud is a historian of military cartography, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the founder of the Historical Military Mapping Group of the British Cartographic Society, a member of the Defence Surveyors' Association, and the author of definitive works on trench mapping and toponymy. Another very good Great War book!

Another good book about the War to end all Wars. Probably a niche market for this book, especially for cartographers or geographers. I especially liked the section on airplanes and zeppelins. Also thought the submarine section was pretty decent. Overview of Russian Revolution and its impact on the war was very good. Some good photos. For those who may be planning a trip to locate and explore the sites of many of these famous battles. Or those who just want to put the battles into a geographical perspective. I gleaned more info than I possessed before reading the book, which for me is always a good indicator. Descriptions accompanying maps help put everything into perspective.

Useless Maps

I chose this book because of the maps which turned out to be useless. They are not readable and amount to no more than a selling point for online shoppers who don't have the luxury of physically inspecting the book. Otherwise the book is pretty good and I would have rated it higher had I not bought it primarily for the maps.

People wanted to show their loyalty to their country and demonstrate to foreign aggressors that their nation was strong. Many joined the armed forces in the wake of 9/11 and added to the chorus of voices that called for a war on terror, which was answered when in October 2001 American and British coalition troops invaded Afghanistan in search of Osama bin Laden and with an intention of destroying the al-Qaeda network.
In this term paper I will give an overview of the special form of patriotism in the United States of America, highlighting only what I believe are the most pertinent aspects to support my thesis that patriotism was and still is an important factor in American society. I will try to elaborate on how U.S. patriotism developed through history and explain why it is practiced in a near-religious fashion even today.
