Doch erst in den frühen 80er Jahren begannen afroamerikanische Männer in der South Bronx New Yorks, Musik intensiv als Medium zu nutzen, um politische Meinungen zu artikulieren und ein Bewusstsein für soziale Missstände zu schaffen. Die informelle Segregation erwies sich als weitaus hartnäckiger als die gesetzliche, denn der Rassismus war noch tief in den Köpfen der weißen Mehrheit eingegraben. Vor diesem Hintergrund entstand in den 70er Jahren die Hip-Hop-Kultur als eine Alternative zu den Bandenkriegen der späten 60er Jahre. Sie funktionierte jedoch zuerst lange Zeit nur im Untergrund, wo sich einst rivalisierende Gangs nun gegenseitig Wortgefechte (sogenannte „Battles“) im Sprechgesang lieferten. Es war jedoch nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis die neue Bewegung auch außerhalb der schwarzen Szene Aufmerksamkeit erhielt. 1979 wurden erste Platten veröffentlicht (allen voran „Rapper’s Delight“ von der Sugarhill Gang), und mit „The Message“ (von Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five) gerieten schließlich diejenigen, die sich stets nur am Rande der Gesellschaft befanden, zum ersten Mal in das Zentrum weißer Wahrnehmung. Dieser Hit aus dem Jahre 1982 leitete eine Phase des inhaltlich bestimmten und engagierten Rap ein. Hip Hop wurde zu einer Lebensphilosophie („Hip Hop is not just a music, it is an attitude, it is an awareness, it is a way to view the world.“ ) und Rap zu einer Ausdrucksform, die Chuck D, Frontmann der Gruppe Public Enemy, Mitte der 80er Jahre zum CNN der schwarzen Bevölkerung („the black man’s CNN“) ernannte. „Rap hat den Schwarzen eine Sprache gegeben.“ Da das Fernsehen nur einseitige Informationen lieferte, erfuhren sie beim Hören der Musik erstmals etwas über die Lebensverhältnisse anderer Afroamerikaner. Rap wird in den folgenden Jahren für Gruppen wie Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions und etwas später Dead Prez zum Medium für Botschaften, zum „Message Rap“. Ihr erklärtes Ziel ist es, schwarze Jugendliche in ihrer eigenen Sprache anzusprechen und sie über Themen aufzuklären, die für ihr Leben eine Rolle spielen. Die Texte dieser Künstler sollen im Folgenden als Grundlage dienen, um den Rap der 80er und 90er Jahre als ein wichtiges Kommunikationsmedium für die Reproduktion und Verbreitung politischer und sozialer Ansichten herauszustellen.

Auswirkungen von aktuell angewandten arbeitsmarktpolitischen Instrumenten sollen hierbei identifiziert und beurteilt werden. Um Beobachtungen und Wirkungen auf den nationalen Arbeitsmärkten zu verstehen, sind zunächst einige kurze Erläuterungen nötig. Kapitel 2 gibt zunächst einen knappen Einblick in die herrschenden Kräfte auf dem Arbeitsmarkt und beschäftigt sich im Anschluss mit den definitorischen Grundlagen der für diese Ausarbeitung wichtigen Statistiken. Arbeitszeit steht einer Volkswirtschaft nicht unbegrenzt zur Verfügung. Wie alle begrenzten Güter hat auch Arbeitszeit einen Preis. Haushalte wollen konsumieren und bieten Arbeit an, welche Unternehmen zur Produktion von Gütern nachfragen. Kräfte von Angebot und Nachfrage, ähnlich denen auf Gütermärkten, beeinflussen somit den Arbeitsmarkt.

Sixth Edition is the Best of All!

I make my living doing patent searches, and like the author, am an Engineer and Sofware person, but not an attorney. I review high technology patent applications at payroy dot com in very complex and diverse areas including biotech, circuits, algorithms, medical devices, software, gadgets, physics, chemistry, etc.

There are many books out today on "do it yourself" patenting, and they generally fall into three categories: 1. Professional titles like this one, but that focus on judicial review, the Federal Circuit's process and latest decisions, bouncing between district and circuit, etc. These books run anywhere from $400 to thousands. LexisNexis buys out the best ones (as they just did with all the Oxford IP titles), and charges more thousands for subscription searches. 2. The inexpensive and frankly dangerous books that suggest you can do it all yourself, with varying degrees of useful and useless tips. The search sections of these books are generally, to be honest, a joke. 3. The VERY RARE book like this one, that specializes in the most key areas of drafting (prior art and detailed technology and claim searches), and is just as professional and thorough as the most expensive ones, yet is very reasonably priced for the amount of details given as well as the currency and relevance of the resources.

There are two "must buy" features for this edition-- a. Like '09, it strikes an amazing and unusual balance between beginners and very advanced users. It is, surprisingly, of great value to both sophisticated, experienced searchers, and brand new inventors who have never tried a single search. b. Unlike, or more accurately updating 5 years ago, has MANY more very current and relevant online resources, steps, ideas, tricks, tips and practical advice, with online now "coming of age" even when you don't have access to Lexis.

You can save many hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of dollars on the open vs. pay switches and services with this volume. It won't (and shouldn't!) save you ALL attorney's fees, but this new edition will help you right off the shelf to know if you should even invest, or, even better, help you refine your submission with many more related references, schematics, descriptions, etc. to "tack" your sail off of.

The Federal Circuit has found, time and again, that despite and regardless of their attorney's generality claims, inventors themselves do the most "damage" in limiting their own scope, because that's what we do as inventors! The subtle value of this volume isn't just "go or no go" in terms of other schematics and claim structures, it is doing FAR MORE EXHAUSTIVE SEARCHES to REALLY see where your idea fits. The more you know about what's out there, the better you'll be positioned at every stage of your design, draft and submission. Search is probably the most important aspect of drafting, and schematics, though a close second, also are closely related to, and dependent on, search ability and quality.

There is one REALLY BIG complaint I do have about this book: The more people who find out about it, the less business I will have, because although it doesn't obviate the need for a good IP attorney, it WILL save you a lot of money in dealing (or not!) with search service providers and paid switches! There are just TOO MANY trade secrets given away here for too good a price-- pun intended! The author knows and details how far advanced the web has become now with data mining, string searches, context sensitive tags, spiders, feed bots, intelligent agents, etc. It is light years from where it was even 5 years ago in the patent domain, so this edition is timely indeed.

Whether you're an inventor, scientist, IP attorney, or search service provider like me, this new edition is a must have... highly recommended. I liked the last edition, but sincerely, this is MUCH more up to date, as there are agents, feeds, technologies and services that didn't even exist in '09, and from a must/should/nice view, this text and the web are more musts than the expensive paid services and subscriptions, which are becoming optional, or in some cases, not even needed. Even so, Hitchcock details every one of them, free AND paid.

This music inspired my 12-year-old son! Awesome!

My son was bored with the music lesson series and wanted "real music." His teacher gave him a piece from this book that he absolutely loved and has played at least 5 million times so far. These are not pop pieces, but lively classical-feeling pieces. Several have a Russian-Hungarian feel that is so great. There are also some more lyrical pieces, and they all sound advanced, but they are designed for the intermediate player. All the pieces are awesome. They are definitely "real music." I also have Bravo! Book II and it is also FABULOUS. Interest-wise, they would be targeted for the player older than about 12 I would think, and playing in at least book 3 in one of the lesson series.

Als Gegenstand dieser Ausarbeitung wird das spanische Ehrendrama (drama de honor) im Siglo de Oro sowie die Umsetzung der Ehrenkonzeption in Clarins Novelle La Regenta (dt.: Die Präsidentin) dienen.
Im Zusammenhang mit der literarischen Gattung „Ehrendrama“ sind dabei zwei Namen von besonders wichtiger Bedeutung, Lope de Vega und Pedro Calderón de la Barca.
Nach einer Darstellung der Biographien der beiden wohl bedeutendsten Dramatiker des Siglo de Oro und ihrer berühmtesten Werke, werde ich anhand einer Figurenanalyse der Protagonisten feststellen, in wie weit die Konzeption des Ehrbegriffs in La Regenta umgesetzt wurde. Neben einer Einteilung der Epoche des „goldenen Zeitalters“ werden hierbei auch die soziokulturellen Hintergründe sowie die Bedeutung der Literatur im Siglo de Oro eine besondere Berücksichtigung finden.

Jedoch ist ein Unternehmen kein statisches Gebilde, vielmehr unterliegt es dem eigenen Wandel und den Veränderungen seiner Umwelt. Daher muss es möglich sein, die Unternehmensstruktur, explizit die Rechtsform, an die geänderten Rahmenbedingungen anzupassen. Hierfür reformierte der Gesetzgeber das Umwandlungsgesetz zum 28.10.1994 und untergliederte es nach Verschmelzung, Spaltung, Vermögensübertragung und Formwechsel.
Mit der Einführung des SEStEG zum 07.12.2006 wurde das Umwandlungssteuergesetz den europäischen Vorgaben aus Brüssel angepasst und für grenzüberschreitende Vorgänge erwei-tert. In diesem Zusammenhang sollte vor allem der „Entstrickung“ gem. § 4 Abs. 1 S. 3 EStG i.V.m. § 12 Abs. 1 KStG von Wirtschaftsgütern entgegengewirkt werden, sodass Deutschland seine Besteuerungsrechte, durch grenzüberschreitende Umwandlungen, nicht verlieren würde. Weitere wichtige Änderungen, vor allem unter dem Aspekt der grenzüberschreitenden Verschmelzungen, werden in Kapital D anhand von Beispielen näher erläutert.
Thema dieser Seminararbeit ist es, eine Körperschaft auf eine Personengesellschaft bzw. natürlichen Person zu verschmelzen und dadurch den Wechsel des Besteuerungsregimes vom Trennungs- zum Transparenzprinzip einzuleiten. Ersparnismöglichkeiten könnten sich bspw. aus der reduzierten Belastung mit Erbschaftsteuer oder der unterschiedlichen Belastung mit Ertragssteuern ergeben. Eine solche Umstrukturierung sollte allerdings wohl überlegt sein, denn bei sich ständig ändernder Steuergesetzgebung kann ein erhoffter steuerlicher Vorteil, in nicht all zu langer Zeit, eine steuerliche Mehrbelastung bedeuten.
Wie vielleicht bei der Unternehmenssteuerreform 2008 schon geschehen? Die Gesamtrechtsnachfolge für Verschmelzungen nach dem Umwandlungsgesetz ist unter den allgemeinen Vorschriften gem. §§ 2-38 UmwG (verschmelzungsfähige Rechtsträger) und dem zweiten Teil gem. §§ 39-122 UmwG (rechtsträgerspezifische Vorschriften) festgehalten. Die Frage der Einzelrechtsnachfolge, sowie der Rechtsformwechsel als Folge einer Änderung im Gesellschafterbestand (An- und Abwachsung) ist im Umwandlungsgesetz nicht geregelt und soll auch nicht weiter verfolgt werden.

About the Author

Jim Ottaviani has written nonfiction, science-oriented comics since 1997, notably the number one New York Times bestseller, Feynman and Fallout which was nominated for an Ignatz Award. He has worked as a nuclear engineer, caddy, programmer, and reference librarian. Primates is his first collaboration with artist Maris Wicks. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Maris Wicks (Primates) lives in Somerville, Massachusetts. She has used her opposable thumbs to draw comics for Adhouse Books, Tugboat Press, and Spongebob Comics, and written stories for Image and DC Comics. When Maris is not drawing comics, she can be found prepping slides for her collection of vintage microscopes. She is an avid tool user and is particularly fond of bananas.

An entertaining and informative read

The book presents interesting vignettes about how these three women got involved in primate science and the hard-won insights they provided to all of us. It never gets bogged down in the details and is a quick, light read. I passed it along to my 12-year old daughter and she also enjoyed it.

About the Author
Abraham (Bram) Stoker was an Irish writer, best known for his Gothic classic Dracula, which continues to influence horror writers and fans more than 100 years after it was first published. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, in science, mathematics, oratory, history, and composition, Stoker' s writing was greatly influenced by his father' s interest in theatre and his mother' s gruesome stories about her childhood during the cholera epidemic in 1832. Although a published author of the novels Dracula, The Lady of the Shroud, and The Lair of the White Worm, and his work as part of the literary staff of The London Daily Telegraph, Stoker made his living as the personal assistant of actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London. Stoker died in 1912, leaving behind one of the most memorable horror characters ever created.

Dracula... with pictures

Honestly, I've been waiting years for a decent graphic-novel adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" -- and all the others I've read are silly, ultra-brief ones. "The Complete Dracula" is a smooth, brilliantly adapted piece of work that easily condenses Stoker's novel into a five-issue comic book... but the artwork swings between sublime and silly.

Real estate agent Jonathan Harker arrives in Transylvania, to arrange a London house sale to Count Dracula. But as the days go by, Harker witnesses increasingly horrific events, leading him to believe that Dracula is not actually human -- and he barely escapes with his life. His fiancee Mina arrives in Transylvania, and finds that he has been seriously ill. Meanwhile the count has vanished -- along with countless boxes filled with dirt.

And soon afterwards, strange things happen: a ship piloted by a dead man crashes on the shore, after a mysterious thing killed the crew. And Mina's pal Lucy dies of mysterious blood loss, only to come back as an undead seductress who is attacking children. Dracula has arrived in England -- then the center of the Western world -- and intends to make it his own. The only ones who can stand against him are, Mina, Jonathan, Quincy, Arthur, John, and the mysterious Van Helsing.

It can't be easy to adapt a collection of fictional letters, memos and diaries into an exciting graphic novel form, but Leah Moore and John Reppion actually manage it. Though they obviously have to do some editing work, they preserve the formal, horror-tinged flavor of Stoker's writing. The plot flows easily and smoothly, and it sticks faithfully to the original storyline of the "Dracula" novel, from the harrowing stay at Castle Dracula to an eerie snowbound confrontation with the bad guy himself.

The big problem is that the art is hit and miss... literally. Sometimes it feels like six or seven people were illustrating different pages and then putting them together like puzzle pieces -- Colton Worley's artwork is constantly flipping between the silly and the sublime.

The bad: the faces keep changing from page to page (Mina goes instantly from ingenue to witchy-looking, and Quincey de-ages about twenty years), and sometimes their poses are pretty silly (when Lucy and her mom are attacked by Dracula, their faces are unintentionally hilarious).

The good: Worley provides some exquisitely creepy moments with smooth, polished artwork (Mina slurping on Dracula's chest) and maintains the vampire's classic appearance (sort of hawklike with a mustache). And he paints many of the eerie moments in vibrant jewel tones: shimmering blues, pale violet-greys, bright orange-reds, and sharp violets.

The ugly: Dracula's tonguey expression in the last fight with the good guys.

"The Complete Dracula" is a brilliant adaptation of Stoker's novel, but has some pretty distracting, inconsistent artwork. It's definitely worth reading, but it's kind of distracting.

Beautiful art and imagery, and then a wonderful comentary by Moore and Reppion.
Captures some of the best scenes perfectly, and can be quite scary.
A wonderful adaption of Dracula, that stays true to the dark heart of Bram Stoker's original.

The Complete Dracula

I can't say that Dracula has ever been on of my favorite classic, but I have been thinking of re-reading the book since it has been years since I read it. But now I don't need to, since I read this faithful graphic novel instead. But i must admit that I would have preferred the book instead and I will probably try to re-read the book sometime in the future when my memory has faded a bit...

I had some problem with the font, a lot of different fonts was used some worked fine on the Ipad, some where a lot harder to read, so in the end I read part of it on the computer and part of it on my Ipad (depending on If was near a computer since I wasn't always at home)

Also the art...hmm it just didn't do the trick for me. I wasn't really overwhelmed by it.

But it the end it was a hell of a ride!
