Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - Deutschland - 1848, Kaiserreich, Imperialismus, Note: 1,0, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, 16 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird untersucht, welche Motive Bismarcks Wandel vom entschieden auftretenden Gegner deutschen Kolonialbesitzes zum aktiven Gestalter von Kolonialpolitik im Jahr 1884 herbeiführten. Die Änderung in Bismarcks Haltung gegenüber der Kolonialfrage hat Anlass für die unterschiedlichsten Spekulationen und Untersuchungen gegeben, wobei in dieser Arbeit die wichtigsten Strömungen und Erklärungsansätze innerhalb der Forschung zu dieser Problematik dargestellt und kontrastiert werden. Als Basis dieser Hausarbeit dienen dabei zunächst die zusammenfassenden Darstellungen unterschiedlicher Theorien in Winfried Baumgarts Aufsatz „Bismarcks Kolonialpolitik“, in Horst Gründers „Geschichte der deutschen Kolonien“ sowie in der Einführung von Axel Riehls „Tanz um den Äquator“. Soweit möglich wurde zur Darstellung der verschiedenen Theorien Veröffentlichungen ihrer Vertreter, beispielsweise von Otto Pflanze und Lothar Gall herangezogen, andere Theorien wurden anhand der genannten Basisliteratur und weiterer Hintergrundliteratur wie zum Beispiel den Bismarckbiografien von Ernst Engelsburg und Johannes Willms zusammengefasst. Besondere Gewichtung erhält in dieser Arbeit die Dissertation „Tanz um den Äquator“ von Axel Riehl, die die aktuellste umfassende Darstellung der Periode des Kolonialeinstiegs Bismarcks bietet.
