When Elvis Presley first showed up at Sam Phillips's Memphis-based Sun Records studio, he was a shy teenager in search of a sound. Phillips invited a local guitarist named Scotty Moore to stand in. Scotty listened carefully to the young singer and immediately realized that Elvis had something special. Along with bass player Bill Black, the triorecorded an old blues number called "That's All Right, Mama." It turned out to be Elvis's first single and the defining record of his early style, with a trillingguitar hook that swirled country and blues together and minted a sound with unforgettable appeal. Its success launched a whirlwind of touring, radio appearances, and Elvis's first break into movies. Scotty was there every step of the way as both guitarist and manager, until Elvis's new manager, Colonel Tom Parker, pushed him out. Scotty and Elvis would not perform together again until the classic 1968 "comeback" television special. Scotty never saw Elvis after that.
With both Bill Black and Elvis gone, Scotty Moore is the only one left to tell the story of how Elvis and Scotty transformed popular music and how Scotty created the sound that became a prototype for so many rock guitarists to follow. Thoroughly updated, this edition delivers guitarist Scotty Moore's story as never before- Sales Rank: #588666 in eBooks

―Jerry Schilling
“Everyone else wanted to be Elvis―I wanted to be Scotty.”
―Keith Richards
“Scotty was there from before the beginning. I learned so much that I never knew . . . great insight to the early years. One of the best books on Elvis I ever read.”

Elvis from a different perspective
By A. J. Ragland
For anyone interested in the Sun years and what really went on in the studio, on the road, and behind the scenes, this is a must read.
Scotty paints a picture of his relationship and friendship with Elvis that, at times, is quite counter to what we have come to believe of the early Elvis. I won't go into details because that would ruin your fun of discovery. Let me just say that if G.K. and Jerry were recalling their lives with Elvis through rose-colored glasses, Scotty seems not to need any glasses at all.
I have been a huge Elvis fan since 1958, and this book does nothing to lessen my love and appreciation for what he and the Blue Moon Boys gave us. You owe it to yourselves to find out what happened on the Mystery Train.

The Guitarist That Changed the World!!
By Linda McCandless
I had read Scotty's first book,("That's
All Right, Elvis.") written in 1997, and loved it, but this one is even better! I really feel that I know Scotty even better now, and I admire Scotty so much for his talent, and for the humble, honest, really good man he is. He was truly a great friend to Elvis, and I believe that Elvis loved and respected him too. Like most Elvis fans, I am disgusted over the fact that he and Bill didn't get any royalty money from all the records that they played on. To me, this was just another example of the Colonel's lies and deceit (to Elvis ) to separate Elvis from anyone that would influence him with different ideas than the Colonel's . (he wanted to control Elvis' life, and everyone in it) (ie. Leiber & Stoller, Anita Wood, etc.) I pray that God will bless Scotty , and that this book will be a best seller!

Thanks Scotty Great Interesting Book for History Aficianoies
By David H. Davis
This Book brought back a lot of memories. I have the pleasure of actually seeing Elvis, Scott and Bill on July 4 1955 at a place called Hoghes Park out of De Leon Texas. The place was actually an area in a creek bottom approx 10 miles from town. Elvis and Scotty and Bill preforemed on a flat bed truck. I remember I was stand by their cadillac when they came off the so called stage. The girls were trying to let the air out of their vehicle so they could keep Elvis and the boys around. I was awe struck and did not actually say a word although I was within 2 feet of the boys. Thanks for the enlighting memories. I an aspireing Gutarist was awed by Scotty Guitar Playing. Nothing new here. Read this book if you want to bring back the memories. Thanks Again Scotty from all of us country boys. We love you. David H. Davis
