Dabei stehen die Differenzen – in ihrer positiven Konnotation, zwischen unterschiedlichen Kulturen im Mittelpunkt und wollen definiert, gepflegt und vor allem in ihrer Einzigartigkeit Anerkennung finden und erhalten bleiben. Neu ist allerdings nur der aktuelle Zusammenhang, das Phänomen der kulturellen Differenz beschäftigte schon Johann Gottfried Herder im 18. Jahrhundert.
Diese Arbeit widmet sich einer weiteren Differenzierung innerhalb kultureller Differenz, das nicht auf ein drittes „Dazwischen“, sondern auf ein „Innerhalb“ verweist: Intrakulturelle Differenz.
Dabei bietet der Schauplatz „Großstadt“ in seiner schier unendlichen Vielfalt von Leben und Existenz, die geeigneten Schnittstellen der sich überlappenden und unterscheidenden Kultur- und Lebensräume.
Alfred Döblin hat mit „Berlin Alexanderplatz. Die Geschichte vom Franz Biberkopf“ den ersten deutschen Großstadtroman von literarischem Rang geschrieben und es dient trefflich als Exempel wie Großstadtwahrnehmung literarisch transportier- und erzählbar gemacht werden kann um so auf intrakulturelle Differenzen aufmerksam zu machen. Die Fremderfahrung, die teils bewusst, teils unbewusst mitschwingt, ist keine evozierte Erscheinung, sondern vielmehr eine Rückwirkung auf die aneinander gedrängten Beobachtungen, Zitate, Parallelgeschichten und Eindrücke des Autors, die zu einer Stadterzählung montiert werden.
Um dem engen Rahmen einer Hausarbeit Rechnung zu tragen, soll die intrakulturelle Differenz, die durch die avantgardistischen Darstellungsmittel zur Beschreibung der Großstadtwahrnehmung sichtbar wird, anhand dreier ausgewählter Beispiele aus „Berlin Alexanderplatz“ näher beleuchtet werden.
Hieran knüpft sich eine Erhellung des zugrunde liegenden Begriffes der intrakulturellen Differenz gleichermaßen, wie eine Einordnung des Romans in den Kontext der Zeit in dem er geschrieben wurde.
