Ist er eher Förderer gesundheitsriskanten Verhaltens, oder hemmt er dieses?
Von Risiko kann man sprechen, „...wenn bei einem bestimmten Verhalten das Verfehlen des angestrebten Zielzustandes und, damit verbunden, das Eintreten eines Nachteils für das Subjekt möglich ist“ (Wesseler 1997). Das menschliche Verhalten ist meistens zukunftorientiert. Die Vor- und Nachteile einer Handlung werden stets abgewogen. Dabei gilt es überwiegend Risiken zu vermeiden. Hierfür ist es aber notwendig, die negativen Folgen einer Handlung einschätzen zu können. Dieses wiederum braucht Erfahrung, über die Jugendliche oft noch nicht verfügen. Für sie ist die Gegenwart oft wichtiger als die Zukunft.
In den betrachteten Untersuchungen werden in erster Linie Drogenkonsum und Delinquenz als jugendliches Risikoverhalten betrachtet. Ist Gesundheit der Zielzustand, so müssen vor allem eben der Drogenkonsum (mit seinen Facetten: Arzneimittel-, Alkoholkonsum und der Gebrauch von harten Drogen) und Gewaltverhalten, als Teil der Delinquenz, als Risikoverhalten angesehen werden.
Zu Beginn der Arbeit sollte daher das Gewaltverhalten und der Drogenkonsum der Gruppe aller Jugendlichen in Deutschland betrachtet werden. Hierzu dienten vor allem die Untersuchungen von Engel & Hurrelmann 1994, Brettschneider, Brandl-Bredenbeck, Hofmann 2005 sowie mit Abstrichen Brettschneider & Kleine 2002. Anschließend wurde, mit Hilfe der Untersuchungen von Brettschneider & Kleine 2002, sowie Brettschneider et al. 2005 auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Sport und gesundheitsriskantem Verhalten bei Jugendlichen eingegangen. Zum Abschluss wurde noch eine Studie von Wesseler 1997 zum Thema Risikosport in die Arbeit einbezogen.
