Im Jahre 1613 wurden erstmalig die zwölf von Miguel de Cervantes verfassten „Novelas ejemplares“ veröffentlicht. Eine dieser Novellen ist die des „Celoso extremeño“, welche auf Grund ihrer Erscheinung in zwei unterschiedlichen Fassungen eine besonders häufig behandelte Erzählung der Novellensammlung ist und auch den Bezugstext dieser Arbeit darstellt.
Ziel der Arbeit ist es, mittels der im Folgenden vorgestellten Analysetechnik der Codierung die Bedeutung sowie die Funktion der häufig im Primärtext auftauchenden theologisch konnotierten Textsequenzen zu untersuchen und ihre Beziehung zueinander darzustellen. Dabei sollen jedoch lediglich die entscheidenden Schlüsselstellen Beachtung finden, nicht jeder religiös codierte Ausdruck des Textes wird in der Analyse wieder zu finden sein. Des Weiteren soll die Beziehung der Religion zum Gesamttext und zur Schlussmoralisierung der Novelle hinterfragt werden. Für die Zuordnung des so genannten „religiösen Codes“ auf die theologisch zu deutenden Ausdrücke des Novellentextes wird bei dieser Analyse das Lektüreprinzip des Close reading angewendet.
Nach der kurzen Einführung in das hier verwendete Analyseprinzip der Codierung und im speziellen in die Definition des religiösen Codes, folgt eine kurze inhaltliche Vorstellung der Novelle, die schließlich zur Analyse überleitet. Daran anschließend erfolgt ihre Auswertung. Den abschließenden Teil dieser Arbeit bildet eine Reflexion über das bearbeitete Thema.
